In our nation of immigrants, the background of newcomers, how they come, and the laws that govern their arrivals are always changing. Attorney Anali Gatlin Looper and Nancy Gatlin will share information about changing trends and laws governing immigration today, poignant stories about particular immigrants they have encountered, and also welcome you to a conversation about the responses we can make to newcomers today. Ms. Looper is an immigration attorney in Waco with the nonprofit American Gateways, and Ms. Gatlin is a community leader who volunteers regularly with American Gateways at the T. Don Hutto Residential Center (detention center) in Hutto, Texas.

Oral history is one of the best ways to preserve a generation of stories that might otherwise be lost. Jessica Roseberry will facilitate and teach as she and her colleagues from the Baylor Institute for Oral History introduce you to this preservation technique. The workshop-style class will cover planning projects for oral history, ethical and legal considerations, interviewing techniques, and preserving oral history.

In addition to his notoriety as Baylor’s “First Gent,” Brad Livingstone is well-known in Waco for his teaching on WWII history. This study of WWII will include a look at both European and Pacific theaters of war along with personal testimonies of WWII veterans, both taped and in person. The focus of the class will look at the rise of Adolf Hitler, the attack on Pearl Harbor, major battles of WWII, and the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan. Discussion and Q&A are welcome and essential during class time sessions.
