Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a counseling approach that helps guide individuals from ambivalence towards decision and active change. Many professionals have opportunities to implement MI in their practice, including social workers, counselors, correctional workers, law enforcement authorities, educators, and church leaders. W. C. “Dub” Wright, LPCS, is a member of the Motivational Interviewers International Network of Trainers (MINT) and has facilitated MI trainings since 1993. With Dub Wright, you will learn how to guide collaborative and goal-oriented conversations. Lunch at a campus dining facility is included in the cost of the course. CEUs for social workers and LPCs, including one ethics CEU, are available upon completion of the course and after payment of an extra $10 fee.   Tentative Course Outline:  A tentative course calendar is provided below.    Topics  Notes  Conversations about change, the spirit of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Method of MI.  Discussion and process of listening demonstrating understanding using core interviewing skills  Will include interactive exercises and processing.  Exploring values and goals and building working relationships. Learning acceptance of others without necessarily approving.  Leaning how to build a positive engagement working relationship    Some videos will be used and there will be interactive exercises and discussion times.
