Leidos - Service Marriage Counselor Certification Program

Baylor University's Diana Garland School of Social Work and the Taya and Chris Kyle Frog Foundation - Service Member Strong have teamed up to offer clinicians training that will promote cultural sensitivity and more effective marital counseling with active military (AM) service, veterans (VA) and first-responder (FR) couples.

This six-course program seeks to empower clinicians to be more effective by providing critical assessment and intervention skills with issues that affect military, veteran and first responder couples, giving mental health care practitioners the cultural sensitivity that is essential to effectively supporting these marriages. This training in cultural competency and clinical practice skills will equip a community of counselors to improve outcomes for their patients, regardless of whether clients engage for marriage counseling or other purposes. 

Module titles include:

Module 1--Introduction to Counseling Service Members

Module 2—Military Culture

Module 3--First Responder Culture

Module 4—Strengths and Challenges of the Serving Spouse

Module 5—Strengths, Opportunities and Challenges of the Supporting Spouse

Module 6--Specialized Clinical Practice Skills

Each module is followed by a quiz. Users must pass with a score of 80 or better.
