Using Respondus LockDown Browser & Monitor

CourseGraphic

Baylor University provides Respondus 4.0, Respondus LockDown Browser, and the companion Respondus Monitor to help facilitate online testing. Respondus 4.0 and Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB) are software applications that can be downloaded and installed on a user's computer. All tools are pre-configured to work with Baylor's LMS systems - including Blackboard Learn and Canvas by Instructure.

LockDown Browser is a custom web browser that locks down the testing environment within online courses in Blackboard or Canvas. Students are unable to print, copy, or access other websites and applications. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until they submit it for grading. LockDown Browser is available for both Windows and Mac.

Monitor is a built-in companion for LockDown Browser that enables assessment sessions to be recorded with a webcam. Respondus Monitor is ideal for non-proctored environments where online tests pose unique challenges. Students use their own computer and a webcam to record assessment sessions, all without leaving the institution's learning management system. When an assessment requires Respondus Monitor, students start the LockDown Browser application, log into the LMS and complete a brief startup sequence prior to the exam.

The student and the surrounding environment are recorded during the entire exam. Instructors can quickly review details of the assessment, examine still images captured at random times during the assessment, and even watch the entire recorded video if necessary.
