Guardianship for Social Workers/Senior Advocates

« back to classes page
ClassGraphic Guardianship is often a necessary part of the continuum of care but it has a profound effect on the person in guardianship. This course provides a historical overview and basic foundation of guardianship, a discussion of alternatives to guardianship, the legal mechanics of establishing, modifying and terminating a guardianship, the duties of a Guardian of the Person and Guardian of the Estate, decision-making strategies used by a guardian to ensure the best quality of life for the person with a guardian, unique challenges for guardians in today’s world and a summary of best practices in guardianship which includes case studies of the most important concepts. A better understanding of alternatives to guardianship and how guardianship can actually work to protect the rights of a person with a cognitive impairment can alleviate irrational fears about guardianship and allow you to be a better advocate for the clients you serve. (8 courses are included. Social Work CEU available.)
