Advanced Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a counseling approach that helps guide individuals from ambivalence towards decision and active change through collaborative conversations. This advanced course is designed for students who already have a basic knowledge of Motivational Interview or have previously taken an introductory class. In this interactive course, you will have the opportunity to discuss challenges specific to your work and are encouraged to bring transcripts or a recording that demonstrates your use of MI skills to class for discussion and feedback. Instructor W. C. “Dub” Wright is a member of the Motivational Interviewers International Network of Trainers and has facilitated trainings since 1993. LPC and social work CEUs are available, including one ethics credit.

Practice and learning affirmation skills
Using and recognizing Sustain and Change talk
Listening in conflicting divisive situations
