Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a counseling approach that helps guide individuals from ambivalence towards decision and active change through collaborative conversations. Social workers, counselors, correctional workers, law enforcement authorities, educators, and church leaders can all implement MI in their work. Instructor W. C. “Dub” Wright is a member of the Motivational Interviewers International Network of Trainers and has facilitated trainings since 1993. CEUs are available for social workers and LPCs, including one ethics credit.

Conversations about change, the spirit of Motivational Interviewing and Method of MI
Discussion and process of listening demonstrating understanding using core interviewing skills
Exploring values and goals and building working relationships
Learning acceptance of others without necessarily approving
Learning how to build a positive engagment working relationship
Understanding and differentiating sustain talk, change talk and guiding toward commitment
